Martin Corrie B.Sc., F.C.A
Having obtained a degree in mechanical engineering Martin qualified as a chartered accountant completing his training with Price Waterhouse in 1976. He then gained banking experience working for Merrill Lynch, Bankers Trust and Barclays Bank.
Martin joined the practice in 1988 and became a partner in 1990. Martin became a fellow of the ICAEW in 1995. Martin acts for the firm as the financial services specialist advising individuals and companies in this complex field. He also acts for various companies in the sporting arena and advises companies generally in the manufacturing and property sectors.
Martin is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in tennis. He has also has been known to play a little golf.
Philip Dean B.A., F.C.A
Having obtained a degree in economics Philip qualified as a chartered accountant in 1992. He became a fellow of the ICAEW in 2007.
Philip joined Hicks as a manager in December 2001 and became a partner in October 2007. Philip specialises in new business start-ups, limited company accounts preparation and audit. Philip has a broad range of clients in many diverse sectors including retail, manufacturing, consultancy, property, construction, agriculture and financial services. The majority of Philip’s clients are owner managed businesses but he also has a substantial number of clients with overseas connections with holding companies, subsidiaries and business interest in the USA, Europe, the Far East and Australasia. Philip also looks after the affairs of clients in the not-for-profit sector including sports clubs and charities.
Paul joined the firm in 2001 and was made partner in 2007. Paul trained with the Trust Company of a large multinational bank before joining Hicks. He is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
Paul is responsible for the tax and accountancy affairs of private individuals, sole traders and partnerships. He has broad experience in personal taxation matters providing advice on income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and trust planning. In addition Paul advises on employee share related schemes, property taxation and retirement related issues.
Paul is an interested follower of most sports especially cricket and is an occasional golfer. He also enjoys travel.
Jeremy joined Hicks and Company as a trainee in January 1998. He qualified as a Certified Accountant with first time passes in all his exams obtaining a wide experience in audit, accountancy and taxation. Following qualification, the partners were delighted when Jeremy accepted the position of Practice Manager. At the start of 2008 he celebrated 10 years with the firm.
John Thornton F.C.A Consultant
Having qualified locally and subsequently gained international firm experience, John became a Partner in a national firm of Chartered Accountants at the age of 29. A year later he was honoured to become one of the youngest Fellows of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. John set up his own practice in 1988, dealing mostly with owner managed businesses, with a specialisation in the Agricultural sector.
In 2011 he merged his practice with Hicks with a view to enhancing the services available to his own client base, and as a result of his extensive experience also strengthens the professional technical base at Hicks.
Nick joined Hicks in January 2010, having been a partner of Eastman and Company a family firm based in Hemel Hempstead. Nick is responsible for managing our Hemel Hempstead office. He has experience in personal taxation matters providing advice on income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax and trust planning, together working with business start ups and small to medium sized limited companies.
Nick is a keen sportsman having played for several of the local town sides, but is now a keen golfer.
Karen joined Hicks and Company in January 2013, following their acquisition of Murrays Chartered Accountants in Hemel Hempstead, where she had worked for sixteen years. She has wide experience of working with personal tax clients , self-employed clients, partnerships, and small to medium sized limited companies covering a large variety of trades and professions.
Susan joined Hicks and Company in January 2013, following their acquisition of Murrays Chartered Accountants in Hemel Hempstead, where she had worked for twenty-six years. She has wide experience of working with personal tax clients, self-employed clients, partnerships, and small to medium sized limited companies covering a large variety of trades and professions. Susan has been a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants since 2011.
Adrian Bacon Manager
Louise joined Hicks and Company in November 2014. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 2014 having passed all her exams first time. Prior to working at Hicks, Louise gained five years' experience in practise in accountants, taxation and audit across a range of industries. She specialises in the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Louise was also a member of Beds, Bucks and Herts Student Society for the Institute of Charted Accountants in England and Wales.

Andreas Koutrouza Accounts Senior
Andreas joined Hicks and Company in 2013. He qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2013, whilst training with a firm or chartered accountants & registered auditors in North London. Here he gained 4 years experience in accountancy, taxation and audit. Prior to that, having obtained a degree in Accounting & Management Information Systems, he worked for a firm of investment managers as an investment analyst for 3 years where he attained the Securities & Investment Institute Certificate in Investment Management.
Andreas specialises in limited company accounts preparation and audit, including company statutory affairs and VAT. The majority of Andreas's clients are owner managed businesses including not-for-profit.
